Three Good Reasons for Democrats to Vote for Independent Bob Fenwick, along with Democrat Dede Smith, for City Council, November 8th. It's IMPORTANT! In the race for City Council, Democrat Dede Smith and Independent Bob Fenwick share a vision on major issues that will face the next City Council. They both support a water supply plan built around repairing the reservoir infrastructure we have at half the 140 million dollar cost of the proposed dam plan. They both support a creative alternative transportation model to replace the long-opposed Meadowcreek Parkway. They both have demonstrated their commitment to a City Council responsive to C-ville citizens-- neither took PAC money to support their campaigns.Democrats Huja and Galvin stand together in a very different place. Huja and Galvin support building the $140 million dollar dam for which the Nature Conservancy (NOT a disinterested conservation group!) has vigorously advocated since receiving a $1 million dollar donation from Nestle Water, to finance a pilot project. Both support the construction of the Meadowcreek Parkway. Both Huja and Galvin took donations from The Nature Conservancy and the Monticello Business Alliance for their campaigns. Those organizations also did mass mailings on Huja and Galvin's behalf. The mailings contained grossly misleading comparisons of the two proposed Water Supply Plans. For a clear, accurate, well-documented comparison of the two plans, click here. It's OKAY! We live in a one-party town! As a registered Democrat, it is perfectly legal and ethical for you to vote for an Independent in the November 8th election. "But I signed a pledge stating that I didn't intend to vote for a non-Democrat in the November 8th election, when I voted in the primary." "Intend" is the key word. If after the primary, new information or displeasure with the nominated candidates, has caused you to now want to vote for an Independent, you are still honoring that pledge. Also, though you CAN vote for three candidates, you don't HAVE to cast a third vote. Voting for Huja or Galvin will hurt Bob and Dede's chances for winning a seat. On the other hand, casting a third vote for a candidate NOT backed by a major party, such as Brandon Collins, is unlikely to negatively affect Bob or Dede. It's WORTH IT! Bob Fenwick can win! When Bob ran for City Council two years ago, he received over 3200 votes (winner Kristen Szakos received about 5,000. The next runner-up, received about 1,200. With your help, Bob can win a seat on the City Council.
